World review 2015

"It was a turbulent year which saw millions of people brave great danger to cross the Middle East and Africa to Europe. All were fleeing war and economic degradation in their homelands in search of a better life abroad. Many sought to flee the brutal civil war in Syria which has given rise to terrorist groups like Islamic State, an organisation whose reach extended beyond the Middle East in 2015. Indeed, attacks in North Africa and in Europe were either directly attributed to ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) or inspired by ISIS. China had a challenging year, with Beijing called to deal with domestic crises such as a stock market crash and the Tianjin explosions. It was also a year in which China began to flex its muscles more openly on the world stage. In the United States, mass shootings featured prominently in 2015. But there were things to celebrate including a landmark ruling on same sex marriage. All of that and more in Pearl's World Review 2015"--TVB web site.
